Volunteerism at Bearingstar
One of our missions at Bearingstar Insurance is to make a positive difference in the communities where we live and work. Besides providing financial support for non-profit organizations via our Bearingstar Charitable Foundation, we also accomplish this by employees volunteering in their local communities. We are fortunate to have lots of amazing people at Bearingstar who enjoy helping others.
Chris Conway, an Insurance Consultant in our Rocky Hill office, recently spent a morning at the Curiale School in Bridgeport for “Read Aloud Day”. He read the children’s book, “Ben Rides On” by Matt Davies to the second grade children. Before he read the book, he read a letter to the children from the author about the importance of reading and telling their own stories.
Chris says, “Being a published novelist, I stressed to the students the importance of independent reading on topics that they enjoy which they told me were cats, dogs, baseball, snakes and hamsters! I encouraged them to share their own stories with the world! Reading great books is what fueled my fire.”
On why he volunteered for “Read Aloud Day”, Chris said, “I was raised in Bridgeport and enjoy giving back to the community. The principal of the school has been a childhood friend of mine for 36 years so it was great to go back and visit.”
