Donation to WAIM
As part of our Community Gift Program, a donation of $2,000 was presented to Windham Area Interfaith Ministry (WAIM) by Diane Laveway, Team Manager of our Mansfield office. These funds were used to support their Back to School program. Last year, the Windham Public Schools adopted a policy that required all students wear school uniforms which created a financial burden on many parents, especially those with more than one child in the school system. The Back to School Program provides much needed funds to low-income parents to help them purchase uniforms or other necessary items such as shoes, etc. This year, WAIM was able to supply 324 children with these items which in turn allowed the children to go back to school with a sense of self-dignity and self-worth.
In addition to their Back to School Program, WAIM provides short-term case management, advocacy, coaching, referral and/or emergency cash assistance to hundreds of clients who are at risk of losing heat and/or electricity, or have other unmet basic needs because of financial hardship.
WAIM started in 1984 in the basement of a local church redistributing clothing to neighbors in need. Since then, they’ve grown to an organization that along with their original clothing distribution, provides furniture, appliances, linens, career clothing and emergency financial assistance to over 8,000 people each year from Windham and twelve surrounding towns.
