Bearingstar Insurance Charitable Fund Sponsors James Mattioli 5K
The Bearingstar Insurance Charitable Fund is proud to announce its recent support of the second annual James Mattioli 5K run. The event paid tribute to James Mattioli, one of the victims of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and all proceeds supported the James R. Mattioli Scholarship Fund. This spring, James’ parents will award a student from Milford’s Jonathan Law High School or Joseph Foran High School a scholarship from the fund in James’ honor.
The benefit event was held March 21 at Fowler Field in Milford, Conn. Participants had the option of competing in the 5K, the .25 mile Kid Fun Run, or the obstacle course, and a variety of local food trucks were in attendance. In addition to sponsoring the event, employees from Bearingstar Insurance’s Southbury office participated in as runners.
“We’re so pleased to support the James Mattioli 5K and participate in the run this year,” said David Curran, Bearingstar Insurance Consultant.
Bearingstar’s Charitable Fund is dedicated to supporting initiatives that remember those lost in the tragic events of 2012. Last year, Bearingstar’s Charitable Fund was a Title Level Sponsor of the Sandy Ground 5K. The race celebrated the opening of the James Mattioli Playground and raised money for the Sandy Ground Project, an initiative to build twenty-six memorial playgrounds along the coast of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut in tribute to the victims of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Hurricane Sandy.
