AmericanWarrier Connecticut Day of Honor
The Bearingstar Insurance Charitable Fund, in partnership with employee David Bauer, donated $2,000 to the AmericanWarrier Connecticut Day of Honor. AmericanWarrior is a charitable organization that funds and organizes trips for World War II and Korean War veterans to visit their respective memorials in Washington, DC. To date, more than 930 WWII veterans have visited the WWII Memorial through AmericanWarrior’s Day of Honor trips. The Connecticut trip will mark the 1000th WWII veteran to take part in the Day of Honor.
Connecticut’s Day of Honor will be held on Saturday, April 26. Seventy-five WWII veterans and 25 Korean War veterans—with an average age of 89—will fly from Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. to Reagan National Airport. Upon arrival, the veterans will be greeted by hundreds of supporters and will get a motorcycle escort to the WWII Memorial, where they will lay a wreath at the Connecticut pillar. Lunch at the memorial will follow and the day will continue with visits to the Korean, Vietnam, Air Force, Navy, Seabee and Marine Memorials. The veterans will arrive back at Bradley Airport for a homecoming celebration at 7:20pm.
David Bauer, an insurance consultant at Bearingstar’s Avon office, proposed donating to the Connecticut Day of Honor as a tribute to his father and all of the veterans of his generation. Bauer will volunteer as a chaperone on the Connecticut trip.
“I am thankful that the Bearingstar Charitable Fund made a donation to help make this trip possible for our WWII and Korean War veterans,” said Bauer. “This organization and its mission is very special to me because my dad was one of many who served during WWII, and AmericanWarrior brings these humble heroes to Washington, DC to see the memorials that were constructed in their honor. This Day of Honor serves as a day to thank those and pay tribute to those who sacrificed for our country.”
